Is veneer right for you?
Veneer is a minimally invasive cosmetic solution, but it isn't right for every case. Our dentist will examine you carefully before advising.
A good fit if you have
- Stained teeth that don't respond to whitening
- Minor chips or small cracks
- Small gaps between teeth
- Slightly misaligned teeth, no braces needed
- Enough healthy enamel, healthy gums
Worth a consult first if
- Significant misalignment - orthodontics needed first
- A habit of grinding teeth
- Enamel that's significantly worn
- Untreated decay or gum inflammation
Not sure which group you're in? Our dentist will examine you and give you a clear answer - completely free.
The Veneer Treatment Process at Lux Dental
Consultation & overall examination
The dentist checks your teeth, gums and bite, and discusses your aesthetic goals.
3D scan & diagnostic X-rays
Digital impressions and X-rays assess tooth structure before planning treatment.
Smile design (DSD - Digital Smile Design)
Simulate veneer shape, proportion and shade in software - you preview and adjust with the dentist.
Minimal enamel reduction & veneer bonding
A very thin layer of enamel is reduced (depending on material); a mock-up checks shade and bite before the veneer is permanently bonded.
Follow-up & warranty
A follow-up visit after 1-2 weeks, home care guidance and the warranty policy applied.
Comparing Veneer Materials
| Type | Durability | Translucency | Tooth reduction | Average lifespan | Number of visits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Composite veneer (direct application) | Moderate - prone to staining or chipping over time | Fair - less natural than porcelain | Almost no reduction or very minimal | 3-5 years | 1 visit |
| Emax (pressed Lithium Disilicate) | High | Very high - natural aesthetics | Minimal (about 0.3-0.5mm) | 10-15 years | 2-3 visits |
| LiSi / Celtra (Lithium Silicate) | High - withstands chewing force well | High - good opacity that hides underlying tooth-shade flaws | Minimal, similar to Emax | 10-15 years | 2-3 visits |

Porcelain veneers
- Tooth reduction
- Very little (about 0.3-0.7mm on the front surface)
- Suited for
- Slightly gapped, stained, worn enamel or uneven shape - teeth still healthy
- Durability
- 10-15 years with proper care
- Aesthetics
- Natural, translucent like real teeth
- Tooth preservation
- Preserves most of the natural tooth
Porcelain crown
- Tooth reduction
- More - the entire tooth is reduced
- Suited for
- Root-canaled, badly broken or weak teeth needing full protection, or severely misaligned teeth
- Durability
- 10-15 years, handles chewing force well for damaged teeth
- Aesthetics
- Good, but more reduction means less preservation
- Tooth preservation
- Removes more tooth structure than veneers
Recommendation
Veneers suit healthy teeth that only need surface-level aesthetic improvement. Crowns suit teeth that are badly damaged and need full protection and functional restoration. Our dentist will advise specifically after your exam.
Porcelain crowns
When a tooth is badly damaged, worn or has been root-canal-treated, a veneer is no longer suitable - a full porcelain crown is the solution that protects and rebuilds the whole tooth.

Porcelain crowns fully encase damaged, worn, or endodontically treated teeth to restore structural integrity, function, and aesthetic form. At Lux Dental, dental crown treatments are individually designed using advanced technology and high-quality materials, aiming for optimal results and natural aesthetics.

- Root canal-treated teeth that require protection
- Discolored or abnormally colored teeth that cannot be whitened
- Replacement of missing teeth with a dental bridge
Crown materials at Lux Dental
- Zircad Prime (Ivoclar) / Lisi (Japan)
- Full Ceramic Cercon / Emax (European Standard)
- Hybrid Porcelain Inlay / Onlay / Overlay (Shofu Japan)
5-step protocol & aftercare
1. Examination and consultation
General examination and X-ray imaging if necessary to assess the dental condition in detail.
2. Tooth preparation and impression taking
Root canal treatment first if necessary, tooth preparation, and impression taking to fabricate a well-fitting dental crown.
3. Temporary crown placement
Protect the tooth and maintain chewing function while waiting.
4. Dental crown fabrication
The dental impression is sent to a specialized laboratory, where the crown is fabricated according to the natural color and shape.
5. Try-in and cementation of the dental crown
Check the occlusion and aesthetics before permanently cementing the crown with specialized dental cement.
Aftercare
Maintain daily oral hygiene with a soft-bristled toothbrush and dental floss/interdental brushes; avoid chewing extremely hard objects or ice; and attend periodic 6-month preventive checkups and cleanings.

Frequently Asked Questions about Veneers
No. For porcelain veneers (Emax, LiSi/Celtra), the dentist only removes a very thin layer of enamel on the front surface (about 0.3-0.7mm), preserving most of the natural tooth structure. For composite veneers, almost no reduction is needed.
It depends on the material: composite lasts about 3-5 years, while porcelain veneers (Emax, LiSi/Celtra) can last 10-15 years or longer with proper care and regular checkups.
Since only a thin layer of enamel is removed, most patients feel no pain - just mild sensitivity that fades within a few days. The dentist can use anesthesia during preparation if needed.
Porcelain veneers (Emax, LiSi/Celtra) resist staining very well and barely change color over time. Composite veneers stain more easily, especially with coffee, tea or tobacco.
Typically 2-3 visits for porcelain veneers (consultation - 3D scan/DSD, tooth preparation & impressions, final bonding). Composite veneers can be completed in a single visit.
No special routine is needed - just regular oral hygiene (brushing, flossing), avoid biting hard objects, and visit for checkups every 6 months.
These cases usually aren't suitable for veneers, since the tooth is already weakened and needs a crown for fuller protection. Our dentist will examine you and advise specifically.
Cost depends on the material (composite/Emax/LiSi-Celtra), number of teeth and your specific condition. Please book an exam for precise advice and a quote.
